19 year-old Bitterroot Valley resident  Christopher Lee Barrett was killed in a one vehicle accident early Tuesday morning on West Fork Road south of Darby.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Tamra Winchell said she responded to the call at about 3:20 A. M. of a one-vehicle crash on the West Fork Road. An investigation found that the driver, the 19 year-old victim, lost control of the vehicle after which it went into a ditch and rolled several times.

Trooper Winchell said Barrett and his 15 year-old male passenger were both wearing seat belts, but that Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger was able to climb out of the vehicle, and was found on the ground nearby. He was Life Flighted to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. His condition is unknown.

Winchell says it is not yet known if alcohol played a part in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
